Thursday's Women's Tennis Roundup

Mercer 5, Samford 2
Mercer came out on top on Senior Day by defeating Samford, 5-2 Thursday afternoon from the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Mercer recognized its three seniors before the match in Emilia CosattoKennedi Jones and Dzhastina Mikhnova. The Bears won the doubles point and the first three singles matches to clinch the match while up 4-0. In doubles action, Samford's Sara Erenda and Emily Surcey won the first match by defeating Emilia Cosatto and Tea Zivic, 6-3. On court three, Marie Bannmeyer and Dzhastina Mikhnova were able to defeat Eleni Liakonis and Meredith Taylor, 6-4. Bannmeyer and Mikhnova's win was the first doubles loss in SoCon play for Samford's Liakonis and Taylor who were 5-0 in the conference and 15-3 overall entering the day paired together. 

The Samford women's tennis team fell, 5-2, at Mercer Thursday afternoon. With the loss, Samford fell to 9-12 overall and 1-5 in Southern Conference play. Mercer improved to 7-13 overall and 3-4 in league play. Mercer won on the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts to take an early 1-0 lead. In singles, Samford won at No. 4 and No. 5, but Mercer won at the other positions to take the 5-2 win.
