Sunday's Women's Tennis Roundup

Furman 5, Appalachian State 2
The Paladins won the top two doubles matches to take the first point.  Seniors Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder handed Taya Powell and Isabela Romanichen a 6-2 loss at number one, and senior Jess Dawson and sophomore Macy Hitchcock defeated Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey, 6-2, at flight two.  The Mountaineers picked up the victory at flight three, where Ruby Broadbent and Alexi Cleveland downed seniors Grace Thomas and Alexa Griffith, 6-3.

Samford 5, Presbyterian 2
The Samford women's tennis team defeated Presbyterian College, 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center. This is Samford's second win of the weekend which boosted the Bulldogs to 3-1 so far in the season. Presbyterian College moved to 0-4 with the loss. Samford won the doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 3, both by 6-0 scores to take the first point of the match. Samford won four of the six singles matches

Florida Gulf Coast 4, Mercer 2
The Mercer women's tennis team dropped a close match, 4-2 to Florida Gulf Coast Sunday afternoon from LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. With Florida Gulf Coast leading, 3-2 the Eagles clinched the match in a close three set match on court five between Mercer's Marie Bannmeyer and Florida Gulf Coast's Nora Svennson. Svennson won the match, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Virginia Tech 4, ETSU 3
In search of its first win of the spring season, the ETSU women's tennis team nearly knocked off Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action but ultimately fell to the Hokies by a score of 4-3. With Sunday's loss the Bucs move to 0-3 on the 2025 campaign. Virginia Tech started Sunday's tilt well winning a pair of doubles matches by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 to gain the early advantage. As the match moved to singles, the Hokies extended their lead to 2-0, but the Bucs started to gain momentum after that point

Middle Tennessee 7, Chattanooga 0
The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team concluded weekend play in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with a 7-0 road loss to host Middle Tennessee inside the MTSU Tennis Facility on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. Chattanooga (1-3) saw the No. 1 doubles team of Rozalie Dohnalova and Alice Hall capture a 7-5 victory after Middle Tennessee (2-2) had already earned the team point with convincing wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Dohnalova and Hall are coming off a strong 2024 spring where the duo finished the season 14-6 overall in doubles action.
