Tuesday's softball roundup

Canisius 6, Furman 3

Furman 7, Canisius 4

Freshman Kate Stoltzfus belted a three-run, go-ahead home run to lead Furman to a 7-4 victory over Canisius in game two and a doubleheader split with the Golden Griffins Tuesday at Pepsi Stadium. The Golden Griffins took game one, 6-3.

No. 17 Mississippi State 6, Samford 1

The Samford softball team hit the road today for a midweek tilt against their toughest test to date as they faced No. 17 Mississippi State. The Samford Bulldogs carried a five-game winning streak into the matchup today, but that was snapped as Miss State came out on top 6-1. Samford falls to 6-3 after the defeat while Miss State moves to 10-1.

Western Carolina 2, Gardner-Webb 1

Gardner-Webb 5, Western Carolina 1

Behind strong pitching from freshman Amanda Fulton and timely hitting from sophomore Sydney Dirks, the Western Carolina softball team split a doubleheader with in-state foe Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, claiming a 2-1 win in eight innings before falling 5-1 in the nightcap with both meetings being held at Brinkley Stadium.

Making her second career start, Fulton was dynamite in the circle as she scattered seven hits with only one run allowed and five strikeouts to earn her first collegiate win.
