Wednesday's softball roundup

USC Upstate 6, Furman 1

USC Upstate 8, Furman 3

The Furman softball team dropped a midweek doubleheader to the USC Upstate Spartans by scores of 6-1 and 8-3 Wednesday evening at Pepsi Stadium.
Furman drops to 5-11 on the season while USC Upstate improves to 15-1 overall.

Mercer 4, Georgia Southern 2

Starter Katheryn Rearley and reliever Hannah Pitts delivered a 1-2 punch from the circle, and Sietske Drijvers delivered the knockout strike on a go-ahead homer with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, to give the Bears a 4-2 win over visiting Georgia Southern on Wednesday evening at Sikes Field.

UNCG 13, North Carolina A&T 1

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team defeated Greensboro rival North Carolina A&T, 13-1, in five innings on Wednesday at Lady Aggies Softball Complex.


The Spartans improved to 12-3 overall, while the Aggies fell to 2-9.

Chattanooga 3, Jacksonville State 2

The Chattanooga softball team picked up its eighth win of the season behind a pair of home runs, beating Jacksonville State 3-2 on the road Wednesday night.
 
Jacksonville State scored first with a lead-off home run in the opening frame. The Gamecocks would get two more runners in the inning, but the Mocs stranded them on back-to-back outs to third. JSU added another run in the second, but it was all the scoring they would get.

Georgia State 6, Western Carolina 4

Junior Rylee Butler homered as part of a career day that included three hits, but Western Carolina softball fell in nonconference action at Sun Belt foe Georgia State on Wednesday afternoon 6-4 at the Bob Heck Complex.
