Sunday's softball roundup

Campbell 12, ETSU 4

East Tennessee State University softball lost in the final game of the Camel Stampede, 12-4, to Campbell on Sunday.
The Bucs were led by junior centerfielder Brylee Mesusan and junior outfielder Taylor Suchy, who had a pair of hits each. Suchy added a RBI and Mesusan also reached on one of ETSU's seven walks.

Evansville 7, Furman 4

Evansville jumped out to a 6-2 lead en route to a 7-4 victory over Furman in the final game of the Paladin Invitational Sunday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.
 
The Purple Aces opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first on Callie Meinel's single through the right side before Furman answered with two of its own in the bottom of the inning. Logan Gunter doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Madison Petty to get the Paladins on the board and back-to-back doubles from Sylvia Burroughs and Rachel Hawkins evened the score at 2-2.

Saint Joseph's 4, Mercer 2

Saint Joseph's scored runs in the second, third and fourth innings to eventually build a 4-0 lead, and then held off a late rally by Mercer on the way to a 4-2 victory over the Bears in the Heart of Georgia Classic finale for both sides on Sunday afternoon at Sikes Field.

UNCG 9, Elon 2

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team defeated in-state foe Elon on Sunday, 9-2, at Hunt Softball Complex.
 
The Spartans are now 3-2 this season. UNCG totaled 11 hits in the victory for its fifth-straight game with 10 or more hits.

Tennessee State 12, Samford 9

Samford 12, Troy 0

 The Samford softball was back in action for the second day of play at the Trojan Invitational. After going 1-1 yesterday, the Bulldog bats woke up in a big way in day two but the final result was the same as they fell to Tennessee State 12-9 before bouncing back with a 12-0 win over Troy tonight. The Bulldogs move to 2-2 on the season with the split today.

Stetson 5, Chattanooga 4

Stetson rallied in the bottom of the seventh with four runs to claim a 5-4 win over the Chattanooga softball team in the final game of the Frank Griffin Classic in DeLand, Fla.
 
With two outs and bases loaded, the Hatters sent a shot into the outfield to score two runners, capping off a four-run seventh inning.

North Florida 9, Western Carolina 1

Graduate student Imara Harrell connected on a solo blast in the second for Western Carolina, but a five-run first inning allowed the host North Florida to earn the 9-1 victory on Sunday afternoon in the finale at the River City Leadoff from the UNF Softball Complex.

Wofford 4, Dayton 2

The Wofford softball team (4-1) took down the defending A10 champion Dayton Flyers (4-1) 4-2 at Hope Field Sunday morning. Brianna Stanley and Havalynn Abernathy homered to propel Wofford to victory.  

Junior pitcher Margaret Axelson got the start and earned her second win of the season with a complete game, four strikeout day. She only gave up four hits in the Terrier Invite championship as she out-dueled Dayton ace Izzy Kemp.
