East Tennessee State University softball dropped its pair of opening day games on Friday.
The Bucs struggled in the opening inning of the season, allowing nine runs to UMass. The Minutemen nearly batted around twice; using five hits and seven free passes (four walks, three hit by pitch) to build the early lead, before sophomore Gabby Fowler entered with two outs and limited the damage to nine.
Ohio State 10, UNCG 6

The Spartans tallied double-digit hits for the second-straight game.Chattanooga softball run-ruled FDU 8-0 in six innings in the opening game and closed out Day One of the Frank Griffin Classic with a 4-3 win over Binghamton Friday in DeLand, Fla.
The Mocs struck out 17 and exploded for 18 hits including two home runs, five doubles and a triple. Zoe Wright was 4-for-6 with a double and triple and two RBI. Acelynn Sellers was 4-for-6 with a home run, a double and drove in two runs. Presley Williamson cranked a three-run homer over the fence in right for three RBI on the day.

Senior Lauralee Scott fanned a career-high 10 batters and junior Sylvia Burroughs delivered a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Furman to a 2-1 victory over UT Martin on day two of the Paladin Softball Invitational Friday at Pepsi Stadium. Visiting Saint Joseph's broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the top of the 6th inning and rode Taylor Trowbridge's 2-hit shutout to a 2-0 victory over Mercer in the season opener for the Bears on Friday evening at Sikes Field.Ohio State 10, UNCG 6

Western Carolina softball opened the 2025 season on Friday, suffering a pair of defeats to Jacksonville and the host North Florida on the opening day of the River City Leadoff, on the campus of the Ospreys. The Dolphins claimed an 8-0 win in six innings before the hosts earned the 3-2 walk-off win on Friday night from the UNF Softball Complex. The Wofford softball team (1-1) fell to the Dayton Flyers (2-0) in the first game but came back to win in the second game against the Towson Tigers (0-2) in the Terrier Invite at Hope Field. Freshman Brianna Stanley walked the second game off in her second ever start.
