Chattanooga clinches the regular season crown

UTC - Chattanooga battled it out in the second game Sunday afternoon at Betty Basler Field in Johnson City, Tenn., beating ETSU 4-3 to claim its 16th regular season Southern Conference title.
 
The Mocs finished the season at 39-13 overall and 15-5 in league play and is the No. 1 seed heading into the Southern Conference Tournament this week in Spartanburg, S.C.

ETSU - East Tennessee State University softball split its pair of senior day contests with Chattanooga, 3-2 (10 innings) and 3-5. 
Sophomore Makayla Veglia had her best day of the season in the early-afternoon contest, driving in all three ETSU runs while totaling four RBI on the day. 
The Bucs honored the program's five seniors – Cameron YoungRiley NayadleySara MuirHalle Laramie and Nayana DeAmelia prior to the first game. Muir got the start in the circle and pitched well for the second week in a row, going five innings and allowing a pair of runs while striking out six.

Mercer 9, Furman 0

MER - Red-hot Mercer pounded out 10 hits and scored nine times behind redshirt junior right-hander Katheryn Rearley's second shutout in less than 24 hours as the visiting Bears finished off a weekend sweep of Furman with an abbreviated 9-0 rout of the Paladins on Sunday.
 
It was the 12th win in the last 14 outings for the Bears (31-23, 11-9 SoCon) who also matched a 16-year-old school record with their fifth consecutive shutout as well. Furman (15-37, 5-16) has now dropped 15 of its last 17 contests, as well as seven-straight in the series with the Orange & Black.

FUR - Senior Katheryn Rearly tossed a five-hit shutout and Mercer posted a pair of four-run innings to down Furman, 9-0, in the regular season finale for both teams Sunday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.

UNCG 7, Western Carolina 3

UNCG - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team swept Western Carolina in The Southern Conference (SoCon) regular season finale doubleheader on Sunday at UNCG Softball Stadium with scores of 7-3 and 9-1.
 
UNCG is 38-16 overall and 14-6 in the SoCon, while Western Carolina is 22-30 overall and 6-14 in the conference.
 
Game one on Sunday was a continuation of Saturday's game that was halted in the top of the second inning due to weather. Prior to the continuation of game one, UNCG recognized its six seniors, including Jessie ShipleyMeredith HarwoodGrace LoftinMaria NunezGracyn Millsaps and Jorde Chartrand.

WCU -  Western Carolina's offense was unable to get going in Sunday's regular-season finale as UNC Greensboro earned a 7-3 win in the continuation of game one before taking a 9-1 run-rule victory in the finale in Southern Conference action at the UNCG Softball Complex.

WCU has earned the sixth seed and plays seventh-seed ETSU in a single-elimination matchup on Wednesday, May 7, in Spartanburg, S.C. at 1 p.m. The winner will face third-seeded Samford at 7 p.m. later that day in the double-elimination portion of the event.

WCU sophomore Lily Bell led the offense on Sunday with four hits, including her ninth double of the season. Junior Tate Stewman had two base hits in the opener on Sunday, while sophomore Maya McPherson picked up two hits, and her 47th RBI on the season.
