Wofford 6, Furman 5 (10 innings)
WOF - Wofford softball (18-10, 2-0) took the first two games of the three-game weekend series against Furman (10-21, 0-2) on Saturday, March 22, at Hope Field. Game one saw Wofford win their first extra inning game of the season by a 6-5 margin in ten innings. Game two saw home runs from Bri Stanley and Hope Ingle as the Terriers cruised for the 5-3 win.
FUR - Wofford rallied for a 6-5 walk-off win in the 10th inning of game one and Abby Greenwood fanned seven en route to a 5-3 victory in game two as the Terriers swept Furman on the opening day of Southern Conference play Saturday afternoon at Hope Field.
WCU - Behind the power of four home runs – two by sophomore Maya McPherson - and a pair of strong pitching efforts from freshman Amanda Fulton and senior Tessa Juett, Western Carolina opened Southern Conference play with a 6-1 and 11-0 run-rule victory against mountain rival East Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon at the Catamount Softball Complex.
ETSU - East Tennessee State University softball lost both games of its first SoCon series on Saturday, 6-1 and 11-0 to Western Carolina.
Senior infielder Cameron Young went 4-for-5 on the day with a pair of walks, reaching six times in total. The rest of the Buccaneers combined to reach base ten times across the two games.
Chattanooga 3, UNCG 2 (9 innings)
UTC - After taking Game One in six innings over UNC Greensboro, it took a couple of extra innings to sweep the Spartans in Game Two on the opening day of Southern Conference softball action.
UNCG - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team dropped two games, 9-1 and 3-2, to the Chattanooga (UTC) Mocs to begin play in The Southern Conference (SoCon) on Saturday afternoon at Frost Stadium.
SAM - The Samford softball team returned home for the first time in over two weeks as they opened Southern Conference play by hosting Mercer. The Bulldogs won each of the first two games in dramatic fashion as they captured 7-6 and 2-1 wins. The victories move Samford's record to 20-12 on the season and 2-0 in SoCon play.
MER - A pair of ill-timed errors in the bottom of the seventh allowed a pair of runs to scurry across home plate as Samford finished off a series-opening doubleheader sweep of visiting Mercer with a 2-1 win over the Bears in the late game on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.
