ETSU 6, Chattanooga 1
After suffering its SoCon loss of the season on Thursday, the ETSU men's tennis team bounced back with a 6-1 road victory over longtime rival Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon. Saturday's victory improves ETSU's record to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in league action. The Bucs began Saturday's contest well winning all three of the doubles matches. It marks just the second time this season that the Bucs have won all three doubles tilts in a single match with the other coming against UNC Greensboro.
The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 defeat to in-state rival ETSU during Southern Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Center on campus. Following the loss, Chattanooga (10-10, 1-3 SoCon) has now dropped its last three matches after kicking off the league slate with a win at The Citadel. ETSU (9-6, 3-1 SoCon) has now won the last four meetings against UTC and 16 of the last 17 with the lone Mocs victory coming during its regular season title in 2022-23.
Wofford 7, The Citadel 0
The Wofford College men's tennis team swept The Citadel by a 7-0 score on Saturday morning at the Earle Tennis Center. The Terriers won all three doubles matches and then won all six singles matches in straight sets for the first SoCon victory of the season. The doubles matches began with a 6-2 win by Daniel Clivio and Jack Burdell at the #3 position. A 6-2 win by Hugo Rask and Ian Rasheed at the #2 position clinched the doubles point for the Terriers, with Jack Deveney and Robbie Young completing the sweep with a 6-4 win at the #1 position.
The best showing in singles for The Citadel came from Bradey Minnich at the 4-flight, losing 5-7, 5-7. Tucker Hendrix made just his second singles appearance in a dual match this season versus Wofford, playing at 6-singles. Versus Mercer, the freshman 3-doubles pairing of Beckendorf / Osipov won 7-6 (7-3), but The Citadel lost the doubles point. Hendrix used the momentum from the morning match, prevailing in his 6-singles match in a tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
Samford 6, UNCG 1
The Samford men's tennis team won its sixth-straight match, earning a 6-1 win over UNC Greensboro on Senior Day at the Samford Tennis Complex. With the win, Samford improved its record to 15-4 overall and 5-0 in Southern Conference play. UNC Greensboro fell to 8-11 overall and 2-3 in league play. Samford won on the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts to secure the first point of the match. In singles, Samford won at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to close out the 6-1 win. At No. 2 singles, Darcy Nicholls defeated John Gabelic, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. On the No. 3 singles court, Hayden Menon defeated Luke Thomson, 7-5, 6-4.
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell 6-1 while taking on the Samford Bulldogs in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Saturday afternoon at Samford Tennis Center. Samford got on the board first by earning the doubles point. The Bulldogs got the point by prevailing in the first two doubles matches. J.B. Pickard and Darcy Nicholls won the first doubles, 6-3, over UNCG's Tymofiy Khrystyuk and John Gabelic. Victorio Sardinha and Sebastian Harrison then won 6-3 over Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz. UNCG's Luke Thomson and William Elmers concluded doubles action winning 7-6 (7-5) over Sandeep Mohandoss and Santiago Arredondo, but Samford had already earned the point for a 1-0 advantage.
Mercer 6, The Citadel 1
Junior tandem Hod'Abalo Isak Padio and Amen Prince Gandonou toughed out a 7-5 win in the featured doubles match to clinch the early point for Mercer and the Bears breezed to five straight-sets singles victories to fuel a 6-1 rout of The Citadel on Saturday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center. The win helped the Bears (8-6, 3-0 SoCon) tack up their first 3-0 start to conference action since the 2018 campaign, while also giving the Orange & Black its fourth-straight overall victory – its longest winning skein since early in the 2023 campaign. It was the seventh-straight loss for The Citadel (4-23, 0-6) who remained winless in Southern Conference action.
