Sunday's Men's Tennis Roundup

Mercer 4, Chattanooga 3
Marceau Fouilhoux finished off Kristof Kincses in straight sets to knot things up on the team scoreboard, and Amen Prince Gandonou completed the comeback effort for Mercer with a three-set win over Cortland Grove as the Bears won their Southern Conference opener for the third-straight year with a 4-3 triumph at Chattanooga on Sunday. It was the second win in the last three series matchups for Mercer (6-6, 1-0 SoCon), but its first road win in the series with the Mocs since a 4-3 nailbiter on April 11, 2021. The setback snapped a six-match home win streak for Chattanooga (10-9, 1-2).

The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team went down to the wire with Mercer before eventually falling 4-3 during Southern Conference action on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Center on campus. Chattanooga (10-9, 1-2 SoCon) has now dropped its last two league matches after opening with a road win at The Citadel last weekend. Mercer (6-6, 1-0 SoCon) evens its overall record and opens its SoCon slate with a 1-0 record after the victory. The Bears claimed the early doubles point after claiming wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 tandems while the No. 1 UTC duo of Jakub Jupa and Gabriel Castillo closed with a 7-6 (5) win. Tied 3-3 in the match after back-and-forth action at singles, Mercer earned the deciding fourth point with a hard-earned 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win in the No. 3 slot.
