Samford’s Isbell named SoCon men’s golfer of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Gavin Isbell has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 9-15. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Isbell finished fifth at the Arkansas State Spring Invitational in Jonesboro, Arkansas, which wrapped play on Tuesday. The native of Trussville, Alabama, shot rounds of 69-74-67 for a tournament score of 210 (-6). The freshman finished the tournament tied for first in par-5 scoring (-10) and was one of three golfers in the event to have multiple eagles, logging two in the opening round. Isbell climbed seven spots up the leaderboard on the final day of competition to achieve the first top 5 finish in his collegiate career.

Samford finished fourth at the Arkansas State Spring Invitational in the 10-team, 60- golfer field with a tournament score of 867 (+3). The Bulldogs shot 288 in the first round, 297 in the second round and 282 in the final round.

The Bulldogs will play their next tournament at the SoCon Men’s Golf Championship in Greensboro, Georgia, on April 20-22.
