UNCG’s Lewis named SoCon men’s golfer of the week
Finished in the top 10 at the Maridoe Intercollegiate
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Jake Lewis has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 26-April 1. The selection is made by the league office.
Lewis, who also won the honor on March 19, finished tied for 10th at the Maridoe Intercollegiate in Carrollton, Texas, which wrapped play on Tuesday. The native of Cary, North Carolina, posted rounds of 75-74-71 for a tournament score of 220. The freshman finished tied for third in the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.58). Lewis also defeated 10 ranked golfers in the event, including fourth-ranked Ethan Fang of Oklahoma State.
UNCG placed fifth at the Maridoe Intercollegiate in the 13-team, 78-golfer field with a tournament score of 897. The Spartans shot 295 in the first round, 294 in the second round and 308 in the final round. The four teams that finished ahead of UNCG are all ranked in the top 15 in the country, with seventh-ranked Oklahoma winning the event.
The Spartans will play their next tournament at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Kannapolis, North Carolina, on April 7-8.
