Western Carolina’s Kell named SoCon Player of the Week

Redshirt sophomore averages a double-double in a pair of wins

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina forward Marcus Kell has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Feb. 10-16. The award is selected by the league office.
 

Kell, who won the weekly honor for the second straight week, led the Catamounts to two wins at home. In a 76-67 upset win over ETSU on Feb. 12, the product of Rock Hill, South Carolina, scored 18 points, pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds and blocked three shots. Three days later, the redshirt sophomore dropped another 18 points with eight rebounds and a steal in a 76-73 win over The Citadel. Kell also had an assist in each game.

Western Carolina (8-17, 4-10 SoCon) travels to league Chattanooga (19-8, 11-3) on Feb. 19, and Samford (20-7, 10-4) on Feb. 22.
