Wofford Baseball Bests Winthrop 12-3 Wednesday
Sheldon Egger (2-1) earned the win as the starter after pitching 5.0 innings with three runs (two earned) allowed on seven hits and one walk. He struck out five to match his career best. Grant Comstock tossed a scoreless inning with no hits and just a walk allowed. Michael Sills (2) picked up the save after polishing off the final 3.0 frames with no runs surrendered and just one hit given up. Sills punched out a career-high-tying seven batters, including each of the first five he faced out of the bullpen.
Keydets use long ball to slug past Highlanders
VMI Baseball returned to the win column Wednesday night after handling Radford at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium. The Keydets (21-13, 4-5 SoCon) swatted three homers to roll through the Highlanders, 11-5. VMI has now had 13 multi-home run games and has scored double-digit runs in 19 games.
Catamounts Edged by the Mountaineers 7-6 in Boone
Trent Turner drove in a run and Elijah Smith plated two in a three-run top of the sixth inning on Wednesday evening, but home-standing Appalachian State hit a three-run home run as part of a four-run home half of the same frame as the Mountaineers reclaimed the lead. WCU pushed across a run in the ninth and had the game-tying marker aboard but were unable to find the equalizer as the Catamounts were edged 7-6 in the back end of the midweek nonconference home-and-home at Jim & Bettie Smith Stadium.
Bears Unable to Overcome Early Deficit In Loss To Georgia Southern
Visiting Georgia Southern jumped out to a big lead early on Wednesday and did not look back, taking an 8-3 win over Mercer at OrthoGeorgia Park. Zack Thompson (2-for-4) hit his first home run of the season and added a double for his fourth consecutive multi-hit game to lead the Bears at the plate. Carson Bryant (2-1) got the win for Georgia Southern, while Andrew Garnett (1-1) took the loss for Mercer.
