Sunday's Baseball Roundup

ETSU 10, Binghampton 0
The ETSU baseball team shut out Binghamton by a score of 10-0 in eight innings on Sunday afternoon for its seventh consecutive win. Sunday's victory not only improves ETSU's record to 10-2 this season but it also was ETSU Head Coach Joe Pennucci's 200th in leading the Bucs. Pennucci becomes just the third ETSU Head Coach to reach this milestone joining Tony Skole and Ken Campbell.
 

UNCG 13, Pittsburg 11
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team won a back-and-forth battle, 13-11, against the Pittsburgh (Pitt) Panthers on Sunday afternoon at UNCG Baseball Stadium. With the win, the Spartans, now 5-5 on the season, snapped a four-game skid after dropping two games to Virginia Tech last weekend before falling twice in the series against Pitt. The ballgame witnessed scoring in 10 different half innings, with UNCG scoring in five of its eight turns to hit while Pitt also scored in five of its nine chances.

VMI 19, Norfolk State 8
VMI Baseball has swept three-straight series to start 2025 after defeating Norfolk State on Sunday at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium. The Keydets earned their 10th victory after a dominating 19-8 outing against the Spartans. VMI has had six games decided by the run-rule and has scored double-digits in all 10 wins.

The Citadel 6, Yale 2
Ignited by a late offensive surge courtesy of Matthew LivelyRobbie LanePhillips Daniels and Garrett Dill, The Citadel (7-4) came back from down one run on a pair of occasions to oust Yale (3-3) in the series finale of the three-game slate, earning the program's first sweep of the season off a 6-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Wofford 11, Le Moyne 8
ocked in a tight battle Sunday afternoon, the Wofford baseball team remained resilient to earn an 11-8 triumph at Russell C. King Field over the Le Moyne Dolphins. Wofford improves to 11-1 on the season with the sweep as Le Moyne drops to 0-10. The sweep is Wofford's third in a row to begin the campaign. The Terriers have now won eight-straight contests. Kenny Michaels (2-0) earned the win for Wofford as the first reliever out of the bullpen, tossing 3.0 innings with just two runs allowed on two hits and one walk.

Samford 7, Kennesaw State 3
The Samford University baseball team earned a 7-3 win over Kennesaw State in the final game of a four-game series Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field. With the win, Samford improved its record to 5-7 on the season. Kennesaw State fell to 5-8 with the loss. Each team won two games in the weekend series. Evan Steckmesser (1-0) pitched 5.1 innings in relief, giving up one run on two hits to earn the win on the mound for Samford. Steckmesser struck out three batters without allowing a walk in the win.

Highpoint 6, Mercer 4
The Mercer baseball team mounted a ninth-inning rally but came up just short, falling to High Point on Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-4. Brant Baughcum (2-for-4) drove in two runs to lead the Bears at the plate, while Craig Kalkbrenner struck out three and limited the Panthers to one run on one hit in 2 – 2/3 innings on the mound. Dalton Hitt (1-0) got the win for the Panthers, with Braydon Kersey (0-1) taking the loss for the Bears.
