Opening day for the 2025 ETSU baseball team was twice as nice on Friday as the Bucs swept a doubleheader from Northern Kentucky by scores of 14-1 and 9-2 at Thomas Stadium. It is the seventh time in the last eight seasons that the Bucs have started 2-0.
Matthew Lively recorded two home runs in a 9-1 victory over the UIC Flames on Opening Day. Russell Triplett picked up his first victory as the head coach for the Bulldogs.
Sam Murchison and
Jay Miller shined on the bump for UNCG, starting in games one and two, respectively. Murchison hurled six complete innings with nine strikeouts before Miller took the mound for game two and went seven complete frames with just two hits and three walks allowed while shutting out the Bluejays and striking out nine. Both pitchers improved to 1-0 on day one of the season for UNCG.
The Samford baseball team opened the 2025 season with a doubleheader sweep of the Valparaiso Beacons Friday at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Bulldogs won the first game, 4-2 and then took the second game, 14-4 in seven innings. With the sweep, Samford is now 2-0 on the season. Valparaiso is now 0-2 with the losses.
The Keydets run-ruled the Hawks in game one, 14-4, before adding another big victory in game two, 11-2. This marks the first win on Opening Day since 2022 when VMI defeated Duke on the road and the first season-opening win at Gray-Minor Stadium since 2008. The Keydets' 14 runs in the first game are the most in a season opener since 2000.
