Bears Use Late Rally For Midweek Win Over Florida A&M
With the game knotted up at four going into the eighth inning, the Mercer baseball team pushed across two runs in the eighth and two runs in the ninth before holding off a ninth-inning rally from Florida A&M to secure an 8-5 win on Tuesday. Drew Johnson (1-for-2, 3 RBI) hit his second home run of the season, while Ty Dalley (2-for-5) and Bradley Frye (2-for-6) each drove in two runs to power the Bears offensively. Lawson Cole got his first career start and tossed three shutout frames, while Jackson Gaspard posted 3 – 2/3 shutout frames of his own. Collin Ewaldsen picked up his first career save, entering with the bases loaded in the ninth and striking out both batters he faced to secure the win.
Samford Baseball Earns 10-7 Win Over West Georgia
The Samford University baseball team picked up a 10-7 non-conference win over West Georgia Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field. With the win, Samford improved its record to 18-15 on the season. West Georgia fell to 15-15 with the loss. Samford was led at the plate by Jake Souders, going 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Jackson Harris went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Cade Carr went 2-for-5 at the plate, while Parker McDonald drove in two runs, going 1-for-4. Trey Higgins and Gus Gandy also drove in a run each for Samford.
Wake Forest Staves Off UNCG Baseball in Midweek Battle in Winston-Salem
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell 6-3 while facing the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a non-conference game on the road Tuesday night at David F. Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Wake Forest opened the scoring in the bottom half of the fourth inning when Luke Costello grounded out into a fielder's choice, which was enough to score Kade Lewis from third and make it 1-0.
